He’d left a few hours earlier and now gone much longer than I expected, and after a shower I dressed in ankle-grazing trousers and a comfy short-sleeved top, scraping my hair in a high ponytail. I was home by myself. No point in being overdressed. And it didn’t matter. I wasn’t going anywhere. Not unless I was prepared for a fight we’d have later in the day.

Over the next hour, I’d delved into some more of the sexy romance book I previously started reading. Parts of it were very steamy, other elements were full of angst and misery.

Misery was my past, I never wanted to meet that again. Angst was my present, something I had to a limited extent in my own life.

I shouldn’t grumble, people were much worse off than me. But I had never thought for one moment I’d at home not doing anything but turning over the pages of books or going into the gym for something to do.

After reading a few more chapters, I stopped when I realised I hadn’t taken in any of the storylines and needed to start again.

Pfft!

It wasn’t the storytelling; the book was outstanding. I knew it was me. I closed my e-reader. I’d try again tomorrow, or possibly later today.

Puffing out my cheeks, wondering what to do. Should I get dressed into something warmer for braving the external cold temperature? How would Ben react if he found out I’d went outside once more? I escaped his wrath this time. Would I again?

Perhaps I could call him, mention Henry’s name. It would cause an argument and I could storm out. I laughed to myself. It was a touch evil, possibly conniving. Anything to occupy my mind.

I strolled to the seat in the far corner of the vast open-plan room, to the enormous floor to ceiling window. I loved this chair, my favourite in the entire apartment. The sight of the city amazed me from this viewpoint. One side was the river and on the other, the skyline of London lit up in the night sky. But it was daylight, I gazed out of the window and down to the street.

People exhibited the appearance of large matchsticks, some looked liked balls, but the roundness was umbrellas fringing above their heads.

I wanted to walk in the rain too.

Possibly a little later.

I opened my laptop and scanned where I had last ended. But, not prepared to persist in the story of my childhood, losing my mum was hard a story I wasn’t ready to continue, but next, I needed to tell the story of my father.

And that would be much harder.

Time to write a different chapter of my life. I opened my laptop and started typing about my education.

Easy and not one tear.

I’d put thousands of words down by the stage before I was ready to finish. Mainly the time from school and up to university. Including how I’d pushed myself to get to the place of my dreams. I closed my laptop. I desperately wanted to go for a run outside, but it got late and probably out of the question.
